When collectors compare card grading services, they usually look at the price per card only – and overlook that shipping, insurance, value-based fees and turnaround easily double the total. This comparison does the maths: what does grading a card from Germany or the EU really cost – at PSA, CGC, Beckett and AP Grading? Every figure is dated (as of October 2026) and sourced; where providers publish no prices, we say so openly.

Why the grading fee alone is misleading: 5 hidden cost blocks
- Outbound shipping: at every provider you ship at your own cost and risk – insured from approx. €7 via DHL.
- Return shipping: the biggest difference. CGC Munich charges €33.32 per return within Germany and €38.08 to most EU countries (1–5 cards). At AP Grading the insured return is free from €79 order value – below that it is €6.99 (DE) / €15.99 (EU).
- Value limits & upcharges: PSA and CGC tiers only apply up to a maximum card value. If your card grades higher, upcharges apply (e.g. a €10–12 handling fee plus the tier difference at intermediaries). AP Grading uses a flat price without any value limit.
- Intermediary margins: German PSA intermediaries bundle submissions and price in margin, customs and logistics – which is why “PSA Priority” (formerly Regular) costs €105–113 via intermediaries instead of PSA’s own list prices. Since September 2026 EU collectors can also submit directly to PSA Frankfurt.
- Customs & import VAT: submissions outside the EU (PSA USA, CGC UK) can trigger import VAT on the way back. Grading inside Germany/the EU avoids it entirely.
PSA from Europe: Frankfurt direct, intermediaries and what changes for EU collectors
PSA is the best-known grading brand with the largest resale reach – but from Europe it is also the most expensive route. Since September 2026 private collectors from the EU can submit directly to PSA’s Frankfurt facility with a free PSA Collectors account (as of 20 October 2026): Standard from €49.99 per card (intro price; list €59.99, value limit €900, approx. 80–90 business days), Priority from €69.99 (list €79.99, value limit €1,300, approx. 70–80 business days); Express €199, Super Express €349 and Premier €599 sit above. Return shipping from Frankfurt is not published. Via German intermediaries the Priority service (formerly Regular) costs €104.99 to €112.99 per card (as of 28 July 2026) at 30–60 business days – still an option, but no longer the only route.
CGC in Germany: fair tiers, expensive way back
Less known: CGC now grades TCG cards in Munich. The Economy tier costs €22.61 incl. VAT (max. card value €1,000, approx. 50 business days according to CGC), the Bulk tier €20.23 – but only from 25 cards and with a turnaround of approx. 85 business days. The cost driver sits in the official return shipping form (effective 2 May 2026): €33.32 incl. VAT for 1–5 cards within Germany, €38.08 for most EU countries. For small submissions, the return shipping alone can cost more than the grading itself.
Graded in Europe: AP Grading, Beckett and other providers
Besides PSA (Frankfurt) and CGC (Munich), other providers grade TCG cards in the EU as well, for example AP Grading (€19.90 flat, ≤ 5 business days), AOG, GSG and PGS in Germany, and CCC and PCA in France; Beckett Europe grades in Lage, North Rhine-Westphalia. A current, publicly available euro price list from Beckett Europe was not available to us as of 20 October 2026. Whichever provider you choose, the lowest headline price does not decide on its own: what counts is the total including shipping, the insurance cover (AP: insured return shipping) and whether the price stays independent of the card’s value.

From which card value is grading worth it? The break-even rule
Rule of thumb: grading pays off economically when the expected uplift of the graded card is at least twice the total cost per card. Example: at 4 cards for €79.60 the total cost is ~€23/card – graded, the card should realistically sell for €45–50 more than raw. The lower your total cost per card (shipping!), the earlier grading pays off – and the smaller the risk for cards in the €30–100 range that make up most collections. Not when grading inside Germany or the EU. For submissions to the USA or the UK (PSA USA, CGC UK), import VAT can apply on re-entry – depending on the customs declaration. That risk and paperwork sit with you as the sender.
Why does shipping matter so much in grading costs?
Because it is charged per shipment and can exceed the card fee for small submissions: €33.32 return shipping on two cards adds more than €16 per card. Bundling several cards – or choosing a provider with free return shipping above an order value – lowers the total cost per card the most.
